Make 2010 Your Best Year Ever by Starting This Habit
How would you like to improve your energy, lower stress levels, increase your productivity, improve your memory, balance hormones, reduce your risk of heart disease, and improve your overall mood and quality of life? What if I told you that to do this you only need 10-20 minutes, it doesn’t take any extra energy or effort, and that it’s completely FREE? No brainer, right?
What the heck could be this great, Doc? A simple afternoon snooze.
Okay, for those of you who immediately said “Yeah, right, I work in a cubicle with 4 other people and a boss breathing down my neck all day long!”…well sorry, you might have to catch a nap in the john or in your car. Unless you can convince your HR person to get approval for one of these Metro Nap sleep pods like they have in the Empire State Building for some of the 10,000 workers that pay $$ to catch some Z’s. For the rest of you who can find a little spot for some rest to combat that afternoon lull, why not have a nice 20 minute siesta to charge your battery?
Check out this study that shows that a 20 minute mid-afternoon nap left individuals with more energy, more self-confidence, and increased productivity. Or this NASA study that shows that a nap can boost your performance by as much as 34%! Or this one that shows that shuteye can lower your heart-related death rate by 37%!
Two words: No Brainer. Conventional belief is that napping is only for the elderly or for lazy, unproductive people. Au contraire, mon ami! It is just the opposite. Since I started the habit of napping I feel more energetic, more productive during my working hours, and more focused. It is one of the best habits that I have ever adopted!
Next time you’re feeling a little distracted, tired, or run-down, have a 20-minute cat nap. It might be one of the best changes that you make this new year. And if you catch some flak, use the research that is cited in this blog post, and tell them your doctor told you to! ;)
